Interview with Local Horror & Halloween Legend

Born and raised in Austin TX, Matt Garcia has always been drawn to the dark and artistic side of life. Matt is an old time colleague and friend of Patrick Stanger, the current announcer for Kings of Combat. (Who also worked in the haunted house industry) Matt has always had a fascination with things that get the adrenaline pumping. FNMMA does Halloween MMA style as we bring you Global Fear Enterprises.

Global Fear Enterprises is more than just horrors and thrills, they specialize in Costume design, video production, special effect makeup, set design, and more. If you want to scare the shit out of someone Global Fear Enterprises can help you out! If you simply want to go on a date with a Zombie, Global Fear Enterprises will hook you up! No matter what it is, if its related to horror, Matt and the gang over at GFE will not disappoint.

We had an exclusive interview with Matt Garcia, one of the two brothers that makes up GFE. Matt and his brother Michael are also some of the main guys behind the scenes responsible for House of Torment, a Halloween national legend. (5th scariest haunted house in America 2009)

After developing their own unique style, the brothers decided to break off and form Global Fear Enterprises. With Texas icons like Sgt. Graves and Mr. Creeps, GFE is sure to be a bloody success! We asked Matt Garcia some interesting questions about himself, his company, and staple characters like Mr. Creeps and Sgt. Graves.

FNMMA: What do you specialize in?

GFE: I think its a.... it's a tie between creating and sculpting the characters, monsters, and costumes and then video production. Its kinda good to be the film director and the art director on set. Because you can have your vision and the idea in your head, and then actually manifest it in the video with our any issues.

FNMMA: So your an artist, do you have a place online where people can view your art?

GFE: Yeah we do have a website, www.globalfearenterprises.com, and there we have props and costumes available.

FNMMA: What projects are you working on now?

GFE: Well we work on “Scare for a Cure” in Austin TX, and also House of Horrors in New York. They called us up to do some redesign in there attraction which is really cool. They have a huge, 100,000 sq ft attraction and work with bands like GWAR and The Miss fits on certain Halloween shows.

FNMMA: Who are the most famous characters you are responsible for creating?

GFE: I would have to say Mr. Creeps... He is more charismatic and approachable and is like a mixture between Ronald McDonald and Ted Bundy! He is a icon in the horror industry, having been featured in the Austin Chronicle as the 2007 “Horror icon of the Year” in Austin TX. Recently the Chronicle also did a blog about Mr. Creeps leaving House of Torment and doing his own thing.

FNMMA: And who is Sgt. Graves?

GFE: Um, he is more like a Full Metal Jacket drill sergeant, Stone Cold Steve Austin type mix.. He is more of the bad ass, cigar smoking, beer guzzling monster.

FNMMA: Who is your newest, evil work of art?

GFE: We are always working on new stuff, but one newest icon we have created is called Shram. He is a German, more obscure, dark and disturbing type. He is also on the website, with no eyes... more of a business type. We went in a much darker direction with Shram.

FNMMA: Who would win in a 5 round title fight between Sgt. Graves and Mr. Creeps?

GFE: Well, um... Man, Sgt. Graves is more like a dab ass.. he is shorter but stockier, and has military experience. Also the actor that is actually behind the make up is a huge wrestling fan and so we modeled him after wrestling charters like Stone Cold and so... I would have to say Sgt. Graves would win by shear power alone. It would almost be like Superman vs Batman, Mr. Creeps is much more psychological and Sgt. Graves is more of a bad ass.

FNMMA: What is your background in MMA?

GFE: I was probably 19 or 20 yrs old when I first saw the UFC on TV. We were like is this for real? So we would go and rent the tapes and watch Royce Gracie, Ken Shamrock and Dan Severn. We were hooked immediately, me and my brother would try and put each other in like arm bars, and ankle locks, we thought it was awesome!

FNMMA: What did you think about Brock Lesnar losing his belt the way he did?

GFE: I was kind of shocked actually. Brock is such a huge brute, with suck freakish strength and power. I knew Cain could win it, but I did not think it would end so fast like that.

FNMMA: Dead or alive, if Mr. Creep could fight anyone ever who would it be?

GFE: That's a hard one..... Um..... I would probably say...... Frankenstein! I feel he is the most iconic monster in the horror industry.

FNMMA: Do you see Mr. Creep winning that fight/

GFE: I think Creep would with his gadgets and intellect, plus Frankenstein is scared of fire and just so easy to scare! LOL. He is just a big brute, no match for Mr. Creep and his wit!

FNMMA: So I heard that you also have a “Zombie Escort Service” is that true?

GFE: LOL, yeah but there is no happy ending! Hahaha. No but seriously if you are really into zombies, like you want to just go watch a movie with one or have a date, we do that to.

FNMMA: Favorite fighter of all time?

GFE: Dan Severn, he was not the most skilled but he was able to out musvle and out work lots of his opponents.

FNMMA: Last question, will you put our sparring dummy in a leg lock or RNC?

GFE: Yes! ;-)

Special thanks to Rocky for letting us twist you up for this pic!
