UFC & WEC merging

Today Dana White made his big annoucement that the WEC promotion will be merging with the UFC. This was also big news for WEC featherweight belt holder Jose Aldo, who is now the reigning UFC Featherweight Champion. Aldo will make his debut and defend his belt against an undetermined opponent at UFC's 125 Frankie Edgar vs Grey maynard event on November 20th of this year.

Many have speculated for a long time that this was an obvious move for the MMA giant UFC. Dana white has seen the lagging numbers from WEC shows on Versus, and knows the fans have long awaited lighter weight classes in the UFC ppv events. Its a win-win situation, the fans get what they want and the fighters get higher payouts and better matches. Not to mention the larger promotion perks that come along with moving up the ranks like more sponsorship offers, more exposure, better fights, etc... We at FN'MMA are excited to see whats in store for us at UFC 125, and how the up and coming star Jose Aldo will do in his first ever UFC featherweight title defense.

  5. I would actually be disappointed if none of the lightweights made the cut and went after Aldo's belt.
